Calgary's largest ever gingerbread house unveiled

(Calgary, Canada) After more than 250 hours of baking and 250 hours of assembly, Fairmont Palliser Executive Chef, Eraj Jayawickreme presented a life-size gingerbread house.

Chef Jayawickreme's vision brought together his three passions: food, children, and giving back. "This was a way to give back to the community while doing something fun and different. A gingerbread house this big has never been created before at Fairmont Palliser or in Calgary," said Chef Jayawickreme.

We're aiming to raise $4,000, through cash and non-perishable food item donations, which will benefit the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre and Calgary Food Bank. Also, Wild Rose Brewery, Big Rock Brewery, and Last Best Brewery are partnered with us and will grant three wishes for three children from Ronald McDonald House Charities® Southern & Central Alberta.

The structure itself was built by clients from the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre, then decorated by the Palliser chefs. Nearly 150 kilos of flour was used, more than ten pounds of sweets, and over 165 kilos of icing sugar glues it all together.
