Beauty meets style at Distilled in Marda Loop

Distilled Beauty Bar & Social House (Calgary) sits off 22nd street on the corner of 34th Ave in the Marda Loop shopping centre. Stepping through the doors is instant relaxation, a well-designed sanctuary by interior style maven, Nam Dang-Mitchell Design.

At the front of the space is a cafe, with Rosso Coffee Roasters on offer, along with light salads, sandwiches, charcuterie, and healthy dips with pita. There's plenty of seating and it's a welcome change from the usual Starbucks.

Just walking through the cafe, I check-in to my beauty appointment where clients are served a complimentary drink. It was cold outside, and I warmed up with a coconut milk chai latte. I've been twice now to Distilled Beauty Bar, once for the signature pedicure ($65) and second visit for the gel manicure ($58).

For the signature pedicure, clients sit in the high back chairs along the wall, blankets are offered and I sipped my chai while catching up with my girlfriend. I also get to take home the bottle of polish, great for touch-ups between polishes. It was the first time I did a dry pedicure, no soaking but I got the same result. They don't have dryers yet, so I had to wait longer until the polish was dry. For manicures, we booked three friends all together and we sat on the bar. The polish selection is carefully curated, I chose a royal blue gel polish which I had painted on the diagonal. The appointment was about one hour, which included removal of my last gel polish.

Distilled Beauty Bar manages to slip right into its own niche, it's a nail bar with style, but also a spa that's not fussy or hotel priced, and with great coffee. Service is incredibly friendly and professional, and my new second home. Other treatments on offer include blow outs, facials, lashes, makeup applications, waxing, and brow design. A liquor license is coming soon, which means champagne and cocktails during treatments! Bookings can be done by phone (403-685-0119) or online through the Distilled website.
